Hazardous Materials

Instructor Information

Class Information

Locations: Rowell 244 and the Environmental Safety Facility
Meetings: Wednesday, 4PM - 6PM and possibly one Saturday to be determined
Goals: This course reviews the fundamentals of hazardous materials safety including chemical, physical and regulatory aspects of field and laboratory work. Successful completion of this course qualifies a student for a 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER certificate.

Grading: Grades will be equally based on three components:

  1. Attendance: Because the HAZWOPER certificate is based on 40 hours of training, on time attendance for all classes is expected. Make up work for missed classes will be required.
  2. Computer lessons and homework: A significant portion of the 40 hours attendance is based on the completion of the computer lessons (see links below). Completing each lesson on time is critical to keeping up with the class.
  3. Class project: The last portion of the class is based on a completion of a class project. Active participation in this project is an important contribution to the grade.
