16th Annual ÒPark PicÓ
July is here and itÕs time again for
our annual outing for good food, good fun and good fellowship!!
If
you have never been to PatÕs Picnic Pavilion, you are in for a treat! Jim is a
great cook and you certainly wonÕt go away hungry!! Of course, our CNYPSG cooks
canÕt be beat either when they arrive with lots of dessert goodies.
Another
great thing at PatÕs Picnic Pavilion is their facilities can handle any kind of
weather! You can sit in the sun, out of the sun or inside if itÕs too chilly!
It
is also the day to find out who will receive the 2007 Walter H. Dickson
Memorial Award for outstanding PWP (Person with ParkinsonÕs) and outstanding
Caregiver.
If
you are a newcomer to our group or even have never attended any of our meetings,
this is a great time to check us out! You will have a better chance to get to
know us and you will see that you can still enjoy lifeÑeven with PD!!
So
check out the details on page 10,
Bring your family and friends and join in the fun!
SEE YOU THERE!!

Under the
Weather?
We send our BEST WISHES and thoughts
to all of the members of our CNYPSG family who have had recent health problems.
HereÕs hoping Barbara Barker, Emily Lewis, Sarah Schachtler and Jean Sterling
are doing well!
Happy Birthday, No Parkin'
Zone
With this issue No Parkin' Zone turns 15. It is hard to believe it
has been that long, but it was 15 years ago, almost to the day, when the first
issue was published. The
first newsletter was just five pages and was only printed on one side of the
paper. It was a one-woman operation. Marge Moylan did the writing,
typing, proofing, duplicating, and the folding, addressing and stamping.
She also took them to the post office and mailed them. Letters were sent
to 17 or 18 addresses.
Today we send out about 560 copies to 30 different
states as well as a few to Washington DC and one to Canada. That's a pretty
good growth spurt for a 15 year old. Today we have two editors.
(Nancy McCaffrey does most of the work.) We have a production staff of
about a dozen who spend the better part of a day four times a year folding and
addressing. We use a professional printer who also collates the
pages for us. Yes, No Parkin' Zone has blossomed over this 15 year span, yet one thing never
changes. It is our chief expense every year but a very worthwhile expense
according to the good feedback we hear. Happy Birthday!
M&M
Shows & Health Fairs
The
M&Ms (Moylans & McCaffreys) were pleased to be invited back to Utica
College on May 5th to present their program about life with PD to
the Occupational Therapy students. It was a delightful experience for the
M&Ms as they were a very attentive audience and asked numerous questions!
We thank them for giving us the opportunity to meet with them.
On
June 28th, the M&Ms traveled to Amsterdam to talk to some PD patients and
other interested persons who would like to form a support group in the
Fulton-Montgomery County area. We thank Kim Ellis and the Health Care Center
for inviting us and wish them well in their endeavors.
