Brunch Bunch
Thirteen
people attended the May 20th Brunch Bunch at the ChesterfieldÕs
Restaurant in Utica to enjoy the good food and fellowship. We were pleased to
have Carl and Betty Perkins join us for the first time and hope they will do so
again! The ŌBrunch BunchĶ is a purely social gathering and is always enjoyed by
all! If you have an idea of a new meeting place for the Brunch Bunch, just let
us know!! We look forward to trying new places!
M&M Shows & Health Fairs
The M&MÕs (Moylans and McCaffreys)
were invited to the Presbyterian Home to present the M&M Show to a group of
area Activity Directors on June 13th. It is always a pleasure to
talk to this group as they are very interested in learning about PD. We thank
them for inviting us again!
We
have also been invited to participate in the 2006 Oneida County Community
Health Festival to be held on Wednesday, July 26,2006 from 10:00am to 5:00pm in
conjunction with the Boonville Fair at the fairgrounds. This will provide us
with another great opportunity to educate the public about ParkinsonÕs disease
and also make it known that our support group is here to help people with PD
and their families and caregivers.
We
will need volunteers from the group to help man our booth.
Editors note:
I
recently received the following two e-mails from Linda Herman who keeps us up
to date on the political action on legislation which affects people with
ParkinsonÕs disease.
Nancy
Good news New Yorkers,
Sen.
Schumer has just signed on as a co-sponsor of S.2115 - the Udall Act Amendments
--'A bill to amend the Public Health Service Act to improve provisions relating
to ParkinsonÕs disease research. '(Sen. Clinton co-sponsored this bill in Feb.
2006)

Both
NY Senators should also be thanked for signing the Dear Colleague letter in
support of increased funding for the Dept. of Defense's Neurotoxin Exposure
Treatment Program (NETRP), which does considerable focused PD research.
A
list of Representatives who signed the House version of the NETRP letter can be

Best to all,
Linda
I
recently read a book that I think you might like too. Different than most books
about PD, "Shaker Guy" is a mystery/political thriller, with its plot
revolving around Parkinson's and stem cell research. There is a book review at:

and an interview with
