MEETING NOTES

We were pleased to have the Presbyterian Home of CNY host our annual Education Day held on October 17th. Our guest speakers for the program were Irenita Flynn Gardiner, RN, and Amy Cheshire, CCSW from the Medical School of the University of Rochester. Their topic was Caregiving. Ms. Gardiner talked about caregiving and Ms. Cheshire spoke about caring for the caregiver and both gave very informative and interesting presentations. We thank the University of Rochester and the two presenters for their generous support!

On November 21st Kathy Russo, RN from St. LukeŐs Medical Center provided a most informative presentation on the Colorectal Screening program. She also provided screening packets and fielded questions from the audience.

Our annual holiday party was held on December 12th with lots of good food and good fellowship. We were pleased to have Lauri Mitchell accompany us at the piano for the singing of Christmas carols. Lauri also gave us a special treat when she entertained us with beautiful music on the trumpet. Jim Kehoe sang a Christmas solo. Pat and Marge Moylan and Nancy McCaffrey provided some entertainment. But our party is never complete until Santa arrives in his red truck chauffeured by his favorite elf, Pete! We thank him for taking time from his busy schedule to join us!

A special thanks to Myrtleann Seifried for planning the refreshments and to everyone who provided the goodies!

M&M Shows & Health Fairs

The M&Ms (Moylans and McCaffreys) were invited to the Ilion Library to present the M&M show on October 24th. The library staff had done a great job of advertising our program and we had a very attentive audience made up of PD patients and caregivers, HCCC college students and other interested people. We thank the Ilion Library staff for giving us the opportunity to educate people about ParkinsonŐs disease and our support group.

On November 3rd Barbara Grogan and Nancy McCaffrey took part in the annual Senior Services Expo held at the Ava Dorfman Senior Center in Rome. The event was well attended and gave us a good opportunity to give out information about PD and the benefits of joining a support group. We thank the Center for inviting us to participate each year.
