Health Fairs

CNYPSG members participated in the 2006 Oneida County Community Health Festival which was held on July 26th at the Boonville fair. Baden Mudge, the Gantners, the Moylans and the McCaffreys were on hand to provide information about PD and our support group.

Our support group has been invited to take part in the annual Senior Services Expo which is to be held on November 3rd at the Ava Dorfman Senior Center, 305 E. Locust St. in Rome .This event is always very well attended and gives us a good opportunity to get our message out. Volunteers are needed to help with this event.

Walter H. Dickson Memorial Awards

The 2006 Walter H. Dickson Memorial Awards were presented by President Pat Moylan to two very deserving individuals who were chosen by the CNYPSG membership.

The recipient of the award to a person with ParkinsonŐs disease was David Timerman. This gentleman has shown us all how a person can cope with PD under many stressful circumstances. He taught us that there are special ways to overcome obstacles like getting a companion dog (Reggie) to help with his daily living activities. Dave is still smiling after overcoming severe injuries from a fall. (Of course, his wife, Maureen, has been behind him all of the way!)

Our Caregiver of the year is Elizabeth Brewer, charter member of CNYPSG, and long time caregiver for her late husband, Clayton. Over the years, Elizabeth has shared her expertise with us and participated in all of our activities. Her quiet manner has been an inspiration to many of us.

Certificates were presented to all of the other nominees for the awards. The Parkinsonians who received certificates were Frank Capcino, Mimi Freeman, Erhard Gantner and Pat Werczynski. Caregivers who were recognized were Barb Barker, Charles Gallagher, Myrtleann Seifried and Maureen Timerman.
