Our Friend, Jack Busacker

Jack, you were always there when we

                                   needed you.

With a deep sense of humor,

You were a quiet man, an ex-marine;

Strong, courageous and nice.

This year you were second vice-president of   the Central New York Support Group.

Always a big help with our newsletter.

We could find you in PT or in the ÒYÓ

                                swimming pool.

If we were looking for you we could find you

Near your little red pick-up truck

ÒMay the road rise up to meet you.

.May the wind blow gently at your back.Ó

May you be united with your wife, Jane

And all your family and friends.

Goodbye old friend.

We wish you all the best

Until we meet again!

Letter to the editor:

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all of your support for the heart walk.  I was very happy to be able to walk 3 miles on Thursday 3/3/05 at Sangertown Mall. Then the next day I worked at the Utica College gym information booth and sold heart buttons for 6 hours. The support made me realize how wonderful people in the Mohawk Valley can be with their caring and giving of themselves to a wonderful cause.

ÒParkinson Care SeriesÕ

We are delighted to announce that we have received a set of the Parkinson Care Series of eight professionally produced video tapes designed to train caregivers working in senior facilities to respond to the special needs of people with ParkinsonÕs disease. Topics include; Introduction, Treatments, Emotional Health, Speech, Exercise, Activities of Daily Living, Fall Prevention, and Nutrition.

These videos were developed to be used in hospitals and extended care facilities for training purposes. The Presbyterian Home for CNY is using this to train their staff in the PD wing.

The program was developed by the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland in Overland Park, Kansas. We thank them very much for sending us the series. We will use it in our support group meetings to help us better understand PD.

Walter H. Dickson Awards

We will soon be honoring two members of CNYPSG for being outstanding role models for people with ParkinsonÕs (PWP) and for caregivers. The Walter H. Dickson Memorial Awards will be presented at our annual picnic in July.

Each year we ask the membership to give us the names of people they think are deserving of the award. Please submit your nomination to a Board member at the April or May meeting. Members will vote on the nominees at the June meeting. Winners will be announced at the July picnic.
