MEETING
NOTES

Our thanks go out to June Hanrahan
from the Oneida Co. Office of the Aging for being our guest speaker at the
October 19th meeting. Her topic was “LifeLine” and she gave us
information on where to purchase it and gave us some insight on what a great
benefit it can be to someone who lives alone. She also fielded questions about
the programs of the Office of the Aging.
On
November 16th, CNYPSG members were the guests of the Presbyterian
Home for CNY in New Hartford. Tony Joseph, Administrator, welcomed us and spoke
to us about the plans to have telemedicine in place at the facility. We enjoyed
their tasty refreshments and then everyone had the opportunity to view “Bob’s
room” in the PD wing. It was interesting to see all of the special innovations
that have been incorporated into the room to make the activities of daily
living easier for a PD patient.
Our
holiday party was held on December 14th. Rev. Webster and Rev.
Pauley played the piano and led the singing of Christmas carols. Jim Kehoe sang
an operatic solo and, of course, Santa arrived in his red truck with his
chauffeur. Barbara Barker and Nancy McCaffrey provided some nonsense and then
everyone enjoyed the large variety of refreshments provided by the membership.
We
were pleased to WELCOME Bill Adair of Rome at the November meeting. We look forward to having
him join us on a regular basis!

We
hope the members of our group who have been recuperating from illnesses or
surgery are all dong well by now. Our best wishes go out to Norman Burak, Bill
Doolen, Fran Manley and Rose Marie Taylor for healthier times!
4
M&M Shows &
Health Fairs
The
M&M show was on the road again in October and November. If you don’t know
what the M&M show is, it is the program presented by the Moylans and the McCaffreys
to help people to better understand Parkinson’s disease. Pat and Marge and Ed
and Nancy try to tell about the disease from the perspective of both the person
with PD and the caregiver. Our audiences have been groups from the general
public as well as medical personnel.
Most of our audiences have been very attentive and anxious
to learn about the disease. They ask many appropriate questions.
On
October 28th, we had a wonderful audience at the Loretto Utica
Center of staff, students, PD patients and caregivers. We were guests at the
Arkell Hall Adult Care Center in Canajoharie, NY. It was our pleasure to have
the opportunity to get our message out at both places.
November
5th found us at the Ava Dorfman Senior Center in Rome at their
annual Health Fair. Health fairs are great places to get information out about
PD and our support group. Jack Busacker also joined us to help man our booth.
If anyone is interested in working at the health fairs, we would appreciate the
help! Just let us know!!
Did you know?
Did
you know we have our own website?
Thanks to Robert Winkler who works at the University of Vermont, our
newsletter is put on our website each time it is published. Rob blessed us with
his interest in PD and offered to do this for us!! Thanks Rob!!
